The mission of The Harris Family Vision
Foundation Inc., is to encourage quality values through personal accountability and by raising the level of
expectations of performance of all individuals.
Our goal is to
motivate inner city and rural children to develop their talent and
arouse the awareness of education, so they can empower themselves and encourage others, to prepare
for the future and help developed their communities. Introduce to them Christian values
and the Holy Scriptures so they can be good examples to others.
The Foundation mentor children
focusing on four principles for growth: Discipline, Determination,
Willingness, and Self-esteem. Special attention are given to
children with disabilities.
We donate back to
school supplies, uniforms, and sports equipment to children. In addition health fairs
are held. Medical equipment and materials needed for the health screenings are donated to clinics.
The Foundation wants to remind individuals they
are accountable and empowered with the ability to take responsibility for
their lives and to set values that sees them through their failures and
capitalizes on their successes. An individual who takes responsibility for
his or her actions will take care of self, family, community and country.
This
foundation was inspired by Kimberly Harris at age nine, and her sister Nekhidia Harris
age eleven. The inspiration came from years of outreach work done by their parents.
“A little child shall lead the way... so run with the
vision without delay.”
Kimberly
Harris attended Little Paradise Inc. School in Brooklyn N.Y at age 15 months; she was already displaying a great vocabulary,
and a strong mind of her own. She showed much interest in Drama and took
leading roles. In July 2003 she graduated as the valedictorian. At her
graduation, five years old Kimberly captured the audience when she
delivered the valedictory address. She was invited the following year to be
the guest speaker for the 2004 graduation. Kimberly was the first child/student to be
a guest speaker at that school.
Kimberly attended the Ebenezer Preparatory School, an elementary school in Brooklyn, N.Y. In
her first year she was the spelling bee champion for her age group, and
was also voted best all rounded student in 2007. She left as an honor roll
student with an "A" average.
She now attends
The Bay Academy For The Arts And Sciences where she specializes in
Forensic Science and continues
as an "A" student. In the
summer of 2006, she participated in the National Young Scholars
Program (NYSP) at Union College in Schenectady, New York completing a course in Crime Scene Investigation (CSI).
Kimberly was selected
by the Junior
Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference to attend the
Inauguration of President Barrack Obama and the Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conferences
in Washington, DC. with keynote
speakers former Vice President Al Gore and Gen. Colin Powell.
